Our community is aiming to raise $1.2M for Hospital cardiac and stroke care.
Heart Attack and Stroke is Canada’s most costly epidemic in terms of lives lost, disability, and financial impact. Our population is experiencing the first wave of the baby boomers heading into their 60s, putting unprecedented demands on heart and stroke services.
Saving lives in an emergency and diagnosing medical complications that lead to heart attack and stroke is part of the Hospital’s district role. Last year, the Emergency Department assessed and treated 2,154 patients with complaints of chest pain. Of these, 124 were admitted to the Critical Care Unit. Separately, 590 patients were admitted to hospital for diagnosis and treatment of heart disease related complaints.
Heart disease is one of the leading causes of premature death in our area.
