The following information has been provided to assist you in preparing for your visit to our hospital. Our patients are called the day before admission. If you have not received a call by 7 p.m., please call the Patient Registration office to verify your admission time.
Surgical Pre-Admission Patient Information Package
Surgical patients will receive a Pre-Admission Patient Information package from your doctor's office. This package includes instructions and several forms that must be completed and returned to the hospital at least five days prior to admission. As well, a time and date for required tests that may include blood, electrocardiogram and X-rays will be indicated. If you have not received your package, please contact your physician's office.
Surgical Pre-Admission Clinic
You may be booked into the Surgical Pre-Admission Clinic. You will be notified of a date and time. If you have not already mailed your COMPLETED Pre-Admission package to the hospital, please bring it to the Clinic with you. As well, bring your current medications in their original container to your appointment. At the Clinic you will have your tests, a teaching session, an interview with a nurse and an examination by a physician (anaesthetist) if necessary. As you can expect to stay three hours for this pre-operative program, ensure you have eaten prior to coming.
The Surgical Pre-Admission Clinic is located on Level 200.
A family member who will be helping with your care at home on discharge is encouraged to attend as well.
Please bring all medications that you are currently taking in their original containers. Include prescription drugs, over the counter drugs, vitamins and laxatives. Your doctor will give specific instructions regarding medications particularly aspirin products, arthritis pills or blood thinners taken prior to admission. If you have any questions regarding your medications, please check with your doctor.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR OWN MEDICATION WHILE IN THE HOSPITAL UNLESS SPECIFICALLY INSTRUCTED TO DO SO BY YOUR NURSE.

Accommodation & Insurance Plans
Semi-private and private rooms cannot be guaranteed at the time of admission but every effort is made to transfer patients to their desired accommodation as soon as possible.
Patients occupying a private room may be asked to move if the room is needed for clinical purposes. If you request a private room or semi-private room, please bring your insurance policy name and number with you. On admission, you will be asked to sign a request for preferred accommodation which states you are responsible for the difference in cost, so please make sure your coverage is current. If this information cannot be provided, a five day deposit or VISA credit card imprint will be necessary on admission. To view our daily rates, visit our Billing Information page.
