Overview
The clinic provides cystoscopy exams. A cystoscopy is a procedure that allows a urologist to visualize the urethra and the urinary bladder through a cystoscope. A cystoscope is a thin tube with a tiny camera at the end. The urologist uses this instrument to look inside your bladder.
The procedure usually takes 5 to 10 minutes. Prior to the procedure, xylocaine gel (a numbing medication) will be placed into your urethra so you have less discomfort when the cystoscope is passed into your bladder. Usually the procedure causes very little discomfort.
Services through the Cystoscopy Clinic are provided by two urologists and specially trained and skilled nursing staff.
Your visit to the Cystoscopy Clinic
This is a day clinic and patients can go home or return to work after their procedures.
Volunteers perform an integral role within the clinic. They assist the nurses with the flow of patients and provide support for their families.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there any preparation for this exam?
No take your usual medication and follow your usual diet.
Surgical preparation: Bath or shower the morning of procedure.
Do I need to bring a support person with me?
Yes if you have any physical or cognitive impairments or special needs, you should bring a support person to help you gown for the procedure, and to help with washing post-procedure.
