Patients Served
Services are provided for patients who are hospitalized as well as patients from the community who are able to go home after their procedure is finished.
Overview
The Endoscopy Clinic provides a broad range of endoscopic procedures done by gastroenterologists or surgeons with the assistance of a specially trained nurse. A scope (or tube) inserted through the patient's mouth or rectum will assist the doctor in looking at the bowel, esophagus or stomach to provide a diagnosis, or assist in treatment of a problem.
Sometimes a short recovery period is necessary; patients are recovered and discharged through our Day Surgery department.
You must have a friend or family member with you to take you home after your procedure, as you will require sedation for the procedure.
This is a day clinic and patients can go home after their procedure.
Your visit to the Endoscopy Clinic
We perform gastroscopy (to look into your stomach), colonoscopy (to look into your large intestines); biopsies may be done during the procedure. Other procedures performed at this clinic include: esophageal dilatation, varices banding, foreign body removal, removal of polyp, tumour tattooing, insertion of PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) tubes and ERCP's (endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography). An ERCP, is a specialized test to look at the bile drainage system checking for gallstones and narrowing of the ducts, mainly looking at the common bile duct and sometimes the pancreatic duct. X-rays are used to assist in finding and removing gallstones or for the insertion of a stent.
