Overview
Patients benefit from Diagnostic Imaging services that combine talented medical professionals and contemporary equipment. The North Bay Regional Health Centre Diagnostic Imaging department consists of C.T. Scan, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, X-ray, Bone Mineral Density and Mammography, with support services such as Picture Archiving and Communication Systems delivering images instantly to our physicians. The right equipment and the right training are both essential for this active department.
Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS)
Recently the Diagnostic Imaging Department has completed the first installation in Ontario, of the Philips iSite PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems). All images, with the exception of Mammography, no longer use film. All images, reports and paperwork are immediately available on line, using advanced and secure internet technology. This not only allows our physicians to view their patient's examinations instantly but it also allows credentialed specialists from distant areas, easier access to vital information, in the treatment our patients.
Bone Mineral Density (BMD)
A new Hologic BMD (Bone Mineral Density) machine has also recently been installed. This new "fan beam" technology is not only much faster for osteoporosis diagnosis but it allows us to complete tests on younger patients taking medications associated with bone loss. We anticipate expanding services for BMD testing as the demand for this procedure grows.

Nuclear Medicine
The Nuclear Medicine area boasts a new Philips Meridian II single head camera. This unit has been integrated with PACS and provides significant improvement in image quality. A remote reading station the AutoQUANT MD is now in place. This unit allows Nuclear Medicine studies to be viewed remotely and with the addition of computerized remote dictation, has improved the emergency reporting ability of the department.

CT Scanner
The 64-slice CT scanner is still top of its class with exceptional detail and examination speed. With increasing use in modern imaging diagnosis, the demand for this service has increased dramatically and we have expanded the hours of operation to better serve our patients.
We are very proud of the progress being made in our entire Diagnostic Imaging Department and look forward to an even greater ability to serve our patients in the future.
