Birthing Unit Services

Our Birthing Unit Services include:

Labour & Delivery

The Birthing Unit of our hospital consists of eight Birthing Suites. Caesarian Sections are performed in the Operating Birthing Suite. The immediate recovery care will be provided in the patient's room in the Birthing Unit or in the Post Anesthetic Recovery Room (PACU).

After the delivery the health care team will support the mother by offering maximum opportunity to learn about self and baby care, and to begin to become comfortable in the new role as a parent. The typical length of stay after a vaginal birth is 24 to 48hrs and following a Cesarean Section birth 48 to 60hrs.

Maternal Newborn Clinic

Once mother and baby are ready for discharge from the hospital, they are given a follow-up appointment at the Maternal Newborn Clinic. This appointment will occur within 72 hours of discharge from the hospital. Postpartum adjustment support and education as well as infant feeding and assessment are some of the services offered at the clinic. Linkages with community partners and support services, as the patients needs indicate, can be initiated at this visit.
